New York human rights activist and civil libertarian Dr. Fatima Shahnaz gives grassroots insights into the causes and dimension of Mayor Elect Zohran Mamdani’s triumph in New York’s mayoral elections on Nov. 5. Dr. Shahnaz worked among some of the same constituencies and in areas as Mamdani, and has first-hand knowledge of the campaign trail and the constituencies which Mamdani negotiated. As author, journalist, professor of political science (Rtred) and international civil rights activist who has worked and walked in the 'mean-streets' of New York's immigrant diaspora and working-class America, she will give an insider’s insights into the multilayered Indian presence in New York, the immigration crisis in the U.S., Islamophobia and Hinduphobia, and white supremacism, Christian fascism, the Palestine factor, the Muslim-Leftist alliance against U.S. capitalism, and, having continued her humanitarian work in India, she will highlight other triggers of the rise of Mamdani, and its relevance for India and Indians.
