The Babul Eco Film Festival (BEFF) is an international environmental film festival organized by Babul Films Society NGO, a Hyderabad-based non-profit organization founded in 2012. BEFF is recognized as Hyderabad and South India’s first international environmental film festival, dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development through the power of cinema. The festival is held across multiple venues in Hyderabad and is timed around World Environment Day, bringing together filmmakers, students, environmentalists, and audiences from India and around the world.

About the festival

BEFF showcases a diverse selection of documentaries, short films, animations, and experimental works that explore themes such as climate change, wildlife, forests, water, indigenous communities, pollution, sustainability, ecological justice, and the relationship between people and nature. In addition to film screenings, the festival hosts panel discussions, seminars, masterclasses, filmmaker interactions, and eco-themed activities, creating a platform for dialogue, education, and collaboration.

The festival believes that “when people see, they feel; when they feel, they act.” By using storytelling and visual media, BEFF aims to inspire individuals and communities to become more environmentally conscious and actively participate in protecting the planet. Selected films continue to be screened beyond the festival dates through outreach programs in schools, colleges, cultural spaces, and community venues, extending the impact of each film to wider audiences.
