Students of The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) are organizing a public forum on National Policy for Farmers as a part of the course titled Public Policy Education for Ph.D Education course work, Public Policy Education is primarily designed to instill values of academic activism, public concerns and critical thinking among doctoral students, to get exposed to real world issues, various policy debates and policy perspectives. Under this framework, we are trying to understand the structure, nature and formulation process of the policy in public spheres.
The forum will be on the domain of agriculture, primarily focusing on farmers. The forum will try to discuss the following.
• How we can strengthen our farmers and define his identities holistically, not merely as a farmer but farmer as an entrepreneur. • Examining the issues of existing price and marketing and the legal framework to improve the income and welfare of farmers. • Assess the impact of international trade on the livelihood sustainability and the viability of small agricultural holdings. • Enhancing the productivity, profitability and stability of the major farming systems. • Explore the involvement of technology in farming, GM Crops and its consequences. • Crop diseases, attacks of pathogens, quality issues of seeds and fertilizers. Scales of finance and credit related issues. • Transportation systems, issues of storage and processing facilities. • Climate change impact on agriculture and natural disasters like flood, drought impact on farming. • Why farmers are moving from village to towns. • Identifying the factors responsible for imbalances and disparities to achieve equitable agricultural growth and development. • Creating awareness on farming issues.
