Mushaira - Women poets

The history of Urdu poetry includes extraordinary women who broke social boundaries, pioneered feminist literature, and brought distinct emotional and political perspectives to the Urdu language.

From courtesans in royal courts to modern anti-establishment activists, women writers like Mahlaqa Bai writing in 1790 to Parvin Shakir in 1990 have fundamentally reshaped Urdu literature.

The Mushaira on September 9, curated by Rafia Nausheen, will feature some of our finest women poets writing in Urdu and Hindi.
