Grantee Presentation: IFA is proud to present three projects by IFA grantees Saturday| June 13, 2015 |7:00PM Lamakaan, Hyderabad (An evening of stimulating presentations and animated conversations)
Yousuf Saeed, a Delhi-based filmmaker, author and archivist will talk about the historical and socio-political relevance of printed images from popular Urdu literature produced in the first half of the 20th century. He will present on Urdu's transformation from a language reflecting the cultural plurality of North India, to one associated with Islam.
Epsita Halder teaches Comparative Literature at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She will present glimpses of Muharram from West Bengal. The presentation will study the varied renderings of the narratives of the Karbala Battle as recounted by Shia Muslims across different districts of West Bengal during the holy month of Muharram. She is a poet in Bangla and a regular contributor to dailies and periodicals.
Ashima Sood, a Hyderabad-based writer and researcher on the urban, will highlight ways in which elements of religious and spiritual pluralism are woven into the lyrical and musical idioms, rites and modes of worship associated with community kirtan or devotional music practice in middle and lower middle class South Delhi India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is a national, not-for-profit, grant-making organisation that supports practice, research and education in the arts in India. IFA’s mission is to enrich practice and knowledge, by widening public access to the arts while strengthening infrastructure of the arts in India by supporting innovative projects, commissioning research and creating public platforms. IFA has supported over 400 grants across twenty-one states disbursing over Rs 21 crore to both individuals and institutions under our various Programmes—Arts Research, Arts Practice and Arts Education and Archival and Museum Fellowships.
