SEXUAL ASSAULT & WOMEN’S SAFETY: CAUSES, SOLUTIONS & WAY AHEAD

Men and women from all over India responded with exceptional empathy and solidarity with the young student who was brutalized and gang raped in a moving bus in Delhi and who is now battling for her life. The incident has ignited young people to come out and demonstrate in big numbers in different cities, including Hyderabad, in the hopes of sending a strong message to the country’s law makers that this is not an isolated incident and that rape and grievous injury is an ever present danger for women all over the country today.

The youth forum is to take the mobilization and awareness forward and share our experiences and understandings of the causes of sexual violence against women today, to educate ourselves on legal, political and social solutions, and to exchange ideas on effective public actions that will have an impact.

We will have an interactive forum with active participation of youth members and four panelists who will respond to different aspects of the issue and will help clarify the causes, solutions and the way ahead.
