Hyderabad Urban Lab invites all for a dicsussion on "The Privatisation of Schools: Solution or Problem?" with PROF. CAROL ANNE SPREEN AND PROF. SANGEETA KAMAT.
In the face of the weaknesses that plague public education systems globally, privatisation in education is being strongly advocated by several 'experts' across the world. This discussion seeks to open a conversation around the question of whether privatisation is a solution or a problem. It will examine the effects of privatisation on the right to education, quality and equity in education, and the effects on curriculum and teaching.
Carol Anne Spreen is Associate Professor at New York University. Her research centers on political and sociocultural studies of education change, particularly the influence of globalization and corporate privatization on teaching and learning.
Sangeeta Kamat is Associate Professor at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her research centers on policy reforms in international education and their implications for the changing relations between state and civil society.
All are welcome.
