Inviting all for a talk by Prof. Chaman Lal, an authority on Bhagat Singh on the current need for the revolutionary in the contemporary political scenario that is playing out, especially in public institutions.

The recent turn of events in various Universities in Hyderabad, Delhi and other places, some say, smacks of the Raj about a century ago what with the exact archaic sedition Laws and silence the restive public with iron fist.

Parallels have been drawn in public sphere about the need for more 'Krantikaris' akin to Bhagat Singh to tackle the current crisis in univeristies. Prof. Chaman Lal comments on the imminent comparisons with Bhagat Singh and the relevance of the Shaheed's principles today.

Professor (Retired) Chaman Lal is the former Chairperson of Centre of Indian Languages in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He also served on assignments at Central University of Punjab, Bathinda and as a Visiting Professor on Hindi Chair in The University of the West Indies in St. Augustine campus.

Prof Chaman Lal has fifty plus authored/edited/ translated books to his credit in Hindi, Punjabi and English. Some of his books have been translated into Marathi, Bengali and Urdu languages as well. His main areas of interest are Translation of Indian literature, history of revolutionary movements during freedom struggle of India. He is known for his books on Indian revolutionary Bhagat Singh and revolutionary Punjabi poet Pash. He has won many national and state awards in the field of literature in India, including National Prize for Translation from the National Academy of Letters(SahityaAkademi) of India. Out of his 50 plus publications, some titles include ‘Punjabi and Dalit Images in Indian Literature’, ‘Understanding Bhagat Singh’ (2013) and ‘Ghadar Party Hero: Kartar Singh Sarabha’ (2010). His latest publication is ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh: Dastavezon ke Aaine Men (Edited-Urdu) (2014).

Professor Chaman Lal has presented papers in many national and international conferences including conferences in Monash University, Melbourne (Australia), Dongguk University, Busan (Korea), Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK), The Academy of Social Sciences, Vietnam, Buo Ma Thuat (Vietnam) and The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine campus, Trinidad & Tobago. He has also delivered lectures in India and abroad, including USA, Canada, Mauritius, Pakistan and Suriname, which include more than eighty lectures on Bhagat Singh alone.
