An Odissi - Mohiniyattam Confluence

Mohiniyattam danseuse, Mythili, and Odissi Artist, Raman Kumari present their maiden collaborative recital in Hyderabad including a novel piece based on the element of water. They will present the varying moods and aspects of water, a quintessential element of life.

The forms of Odissi and Mohiniyattam stand apart from the other classical dance forms having a striking lyricism. The confluence will begin to explore the sameness and differences in the aesthetics of the two dance forms and present for the audience's judgement a token of their collaboration.

Enchantment, Desire and Mohiniyattam: Demo and recital by Dr Mythili Maratt Anoop. Mythili Maratt Anoop has trained under several eminent gurus of Mohiniyattam, has performed widely, earned her PhD in the Semiotics of Mohiniyattam from the Humanities department of IIT Bombay and has several publications her credit.

About Odissi Dancer: Born to embrace arts and love to Dance, Raman Kumari was Born and brought up in Odisha, she was initiated to the art of Odissi when she was 7 years old. She gained her MMus from Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya. Her expose to western dance styles have given her an opportunity to understand “Dance” in its true sense irrespective of their styles”.

Her quest for enriching her art with the technique, style, and philosophy in social context is Raman is one of the well-established artistes in the field today, part of a small group of contemporaneous peers so recognized. She has wide range of teaching and performing experience in this field both in India and USA. She has worked in schools, colleges, universities and also with public and private organizations.

Dr Mythili Maratt Anoop
Mythili is a Mohiniyattam and Kathak performer and scholar with wide performance experience and recognitions. Raman Kumari is an experienced performer trained in different styles of Odissi. She runs a dance school called 'Dancing Dolls', A Place for Dance.
