Sawaal-Jawaab Conversations on Science, 16th July, 2pm.

Topic: Shapes and Geometry of Surfaces by Prof. Mahan MJ

Almost all the objects that we see in our world are examples of surfaces. We will discuss a method of classifying this multitude of shapes that dates back to the 19th century. This is the basis for understanding the rules of geometry hosted on a surface.

Discussion leader: Prof. Mahan Mj is a mathematician with interests in geometric topology. He is the winner of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award and the 2015 Infosys prize, and is at the School of Mathematics, TIFR Mumbai.

Sawaal-Jawaab is a series of conversations on current issues in science. The discussion is initiated and led by a prominent scientist. Open to all ages and backgrounds. Come with your curiosity and questions.

All are welcome. Entry: Free.
