Travelling to new locations often expose us to more than just beautiful scenery. It is often the first time that we see what a local life means to the respective destination.

In this discussion, Anand Sankar, founder - The Kalap Trust, a sustainable travel & tourism initiative in the himalayas, will share his ideas, thoughts and experiences about sustainable travel - that aims to sustain or enhance the character of a place—its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage and the well-being of its residents.

He will discuss how we can respect the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities, conservation of their built, cultural heritage and traditional values, and how can we as a visitor/traveller contribute to this inter-cultural community. In the process, we end up enriching ourselves and our outlook through our travel experiences.

The discussion is free and open to all. We invite all travelers, tour operators, travel enthusiasts to join us in this conversation. It would be great to meet fellow passionate travelers in our city, and share experiences from travel and otherwise.

Discussion Areas:

  • How to support/generate local employment/entrepreneurship
  • Recognising and learning the local art
  • Buying things from locals to keep their pockets filled
  • Exploring places out of guidebooks
  • Be considerate – of the communities and environment you visit. Chat Conversation End
