Lamakaan hosts a 3 day gender centric events "focus FEMME" a showcase of programs that question gender, sex and stereotypes.

They Said, and Woman River, a performance in voice, movement that passionately decries violence against women. Woman River is actually a passionate composition, based on the poetic links that bind a larger dramatic work written by Ujwala Samarth, also an old friend of the ensemble. The ensemble captures the trauma of communal violence through the voices of three women, each of whom delivers a monologue. Also questioning the trauma and rape of mother earth.

They Said was written by Uma Narayan, a friend of the ensemble who teaches philosophy at Vassar College, and captures the anger of girls chided because they read too much. When they took workshops with students of the Nirmala Institute of Education and the Goa College of Architecture, Panjim, the ensemble encouraged this poem being used in the students’ performances that ensued.
