A talk by Usha Ramanathan on the Aadhar/UDAI.

Through this talk she examines,if this really a technology project? Or if is it about corporate interest and the capture of state power.

The talk encompasses the following aspects illegality, civil liberties, lawlessness, coercion, privacy; and also about how the technology rollout is happening, and the untested nature of the technology.

And some stories about how the UID project, and the UIDAI, can be understood.

About the speaker:

Usha Ramanathan works on the jurisprudence of law and poverty.

She has a PhD in law from Delhi University.

She has been investigating the UID project since November 2009, and has written extensively on it.

She was a member of the Expert Group on Privacy set up in the Planning Commission of India which gave in its report in October 2012. Member of a committee set up in the Department of Biotechnology (2013-14) to review the Draft Human DNA Profiling Bill 2012. Member of the Committee set up by the Prime Minister's Office (2013-14) to study the socio-economic status of tribal communities which gave its report to the government in 2014. She has been in a series of committees working to revise the vagrancy law. ALL ARE WELCOME !
