'Ganesha Chaturthi is the Hindu festival celebrated on the birthday (rebirth) of Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati. Chaturthi was being celebrated as a public event in Pune since the times of Shivaji (1630-1680). In 1893, Lokmanya Tilak transformed the annual domestic festival into a large, well-organized public event in order to exercise control over the population, asthe British discouraged social and political gatherings (wikipedia). Their aim is good but today political and environmental issues are changed now a days making ganesh idols with plaster of paris The most serious impact of the festival on the environment is due to the immersion of idols made of Plaster of Paris into lakes, rivers and the sea.plaster of paris is non-biodegradable, and insoluble in water. Moreover, the chemical paints used to adorn these plaster idols themselves contain heavy metals like mercury and cadmium, causing water pollution and also soil pollution. Actually the ganesh idol should be made with clay because we must protect our environment that is the reason we have to bring clay from river bank or lake after festival we shoul return to it by immertion. we are praying ganesh with near about 22 leaves that specific plants protect our soil fertility and also children know about plants so that we can protect our soil fertility and productivity indirectly. Apart fron traditional stories lot of science is there in ganesh festival. It is easy to making of ganesh with clay and eco-friendly Ganesh. It is our resposibility to save our environment.
