"Venezuela: the shadow agenda" is a forty minutes long documentary with English subtitles by the Colombian filmmaker Hernando Calvo Ospina who will join us for discussion from France through Skype. It came out as recently as August 2017 and the cover page of the documentary says: "This documentary is not temporary. It will be valid as long as the United States persists in ending the Bolivarian Revolution that is being built in Venezuela, to seize its immense oil wealth. It is based on interviews with Venezuelan scholars who, in simple and didactic language, tell us a story that the mainstream media insist on hiding or misrepresenting." Ospina’s documentary helps us understand why Venezuela has been in news all over the world for a decently long time now. Its take differs from the supposed mainstream corporate media and is based on the interviews conducted with a variety of individuals from different walks of life. It also puts in the right perspective the way US administration has shown interest in the internal affairs of Venezuela. The film screening will be followed by a lecture on Venezuela’s current political scenario with Prof. S. S. Negi, who teaches at The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Negi specializes in Latin American Studies and he represented India at the recently concluded International Summit of Solidarity with Venezuela, which took place in Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela from 16th to 19th September 2017.
