Mohanam: Mohiniyattam by Moham

Mohiniyattam is an embodiment of lasya, or grace frequently associated with femininity. "Mohanam" is theme of the group presentation by the institute, Moham, the first of its kind to promote Mohiniyattam in Hyderabad. The performance will focus on the concepts of beauty and enchantment through the dance of Mohini.

A Mōhiniyāttam and Kathak artist, writer for dance and art, mother, teacher, Dr Mythili has juggled several roles and is driven by the urge to learn constantly. Currently training under Kalamandalam Kshemavathy, she has also learnt at Nalanda (Mumbai) and has been a part of Dasyam, founded by Smt Gopika Varma as a student, instructor and performer. Mythili has also consistently been a topper in academics and received her doctorate from the Humanities and Social Sciences department of IIT Bombay under the guidance of the scholar-musician Prof. Milind Malshe. Mythili has given several performances, demos and scholarly presentations at prestigious venues in India and abroad and has made Hyderabad her home. She recently edited a book “Scripting Dance in Contemporary India” which has been published by Lexington Books. She has initiated “MOHAM”, an institute for promoting Mohiniyattam in Hyderabad. She is also a student of Aakruti Kathak Kendra, founded by Sri Mangala Bhat and Raghav Raj Bhat. Mythili works part time at the University for Hyderabad as Faculty, and also teaches courses at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and Kurukshetra.
