I Dream Before I Take The Stand is a "feminist classic" written by the famous playwright Arlene Hutton. She is the author of Last Train to Nibroc (2000 New York Drama League Best Play nomination) and the Shaker drama As It Is In Heaven, both of which were selected for Smith & Kraus Best Women Playwrights anthologies. In this thirty-minute one-act play a defense lawyer cross-examines a woman during her testimony in a sexual assault caseā€”and in doing so, horribly distorts her perfectly innocent walk in the park. The questions tear her deep down. The defense attorney rips off her dignity torturing her verbally through his abusive questions. This Play makes for a riveting piece of theater with the writing being pithy and fierce.
