At a time when independent journalistic freedom is being heavily curtailed, mainstream media is dancing to the tunes of the ruling or capitalist class of the country. Vocal voices against atrocities against Dalits, Adivasis and other left activists are being jailed and their houses raided. This comes exactly a year after the murder that shocked the progressive sphere of the country - the death of rationalist and journalist Gauri Lankesh

About the Speaker Mr Paranjoy is a very evocative journalist, known for his stringent placement against exploitative industries. Paranjoy was the chief editor of Economic and Political Weekly until 2017 and is an alumnus of the St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics. He, in his resplendent career of over four decades has ventured into print, television radio and all versions of public media. He is a prolific author, and a diligent commentator. He is a very zealous figure in the intellectual spaces of the country and has spoken largely on the political economy and media. He is a visiting faculty to prestigious institutes like the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, University of Delhi, Indian Institute of Management and so on. He has also been a member to the Press Council of India on the nomination of University Grants Commission for a period of three years. He also donned the hat of the President of the Foundation for Media Professionals for two years. He has also penned many insightful books including The Gas Wars, Crony Capitalism and the Ambanis, Media Ethics, Truth Fairness and Objectivity, Divided We Stand, India In A Time of Coalitions to name a few. He has also directed documentaries. ‘Idiot Box or Window of Hope’, ‘Koyla ya Kaala Shaap’ are to name a few.
