Let’s talk about Women* in Public Spaces.
We want to invite you to join us in an open discussion at Lamakaan on the 2nd Dec at 2-4 pm. As part of the exhibition ‘Women* in Public Spaces in Hyderabad’ which will open on the 30th Nov, 6.30 pm at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, we want to come together, exchange experiences and ideas, reflect on internalized gender norms, self-regulation and social power structures shaped by patriarchy.
Information about the exhibition: In the context of the uprising #metoo movement in India, the exhibition ‘Women in Public Spaces in Hyderabad’ wants to give an impulse to think about the way women experience the city. The multimedia exhibition pursues the issue of how women* experience Hyderabad in their daily lives, which strategies they develop to navigate public spaces, what restricts their access and hence their social participation and how they fight to (re)claim their city as should be their fundamental right as citizens.
The visitor is introduced to the portraits of various young women from Hyderabad who are talking about their struggles and concerns navigating the city as well as their visions for a future Hyderabad where they can exist as human beings, exactly the way they want to be. These individual perspectives are embedded in a broader social context by a short film which brings together the thoughts of different local activists and professionals on the issue of women in public spaces in Hyderabad.
The exhibition is held at Goethe Zentrum Hyderabad from 30th Nov – 6th Dec 2018.
Please bring headphones if possible.
