For the last three and a half years, a small group of nature enthusiasts has been trying to save a unique stretch of old banyan trees along the Chevella-Vikarabad road from being destroyed to make way for a four-lane highway. We have created a petition, written to NHAI, mounted a case through the National Green Tribunal, mapped and documented the trees, and held several awareness raising events. This meeting is to foster new networks of support and to brainstorm some more strategies to ensure the survival of these heritage trees.
