Organizer
Queer Nilayam
Queer Nilayam emerged in 2021 as a support collective in Hyderabad, India, dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ and Queer community. It provides an inclusive space where members actively contribute to fostering social connections and a sense of belonging for queer individuals. Our core mission is to advocate for an egalitarian society, free from inequality and discrimination. Our organization is a LGBTQ+ support group that is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for individuals across the queer spectrum. We are driven by the passion to empower queer individuals, foster a sense of belonging, and contribute to the overall well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Queer Nilayam offers diverse forms of assistance to the LGBTQIA+ community in Hyderabad. Despite lacking funding, we provide support in areas such as general health, mental well-being, accommodations, employment opportunities, events, and support gatherings. We also participate in fundraising initiatives to aid those in need. Some key events and projects include: - Donated groceries and medical kits to 600 individuals within the transgender community in Hyderabad. - Launched the vibrant Queer Festival named Satrangi Mela, which offers LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs, artists, and performers a direct platform to engage with their audience. This event showcased live music performances, open mic sessions, and a diverse array of 40 stalls featuring food, art, clothing, drinks, crafts, and more. - Organized a free health camp open to all, aiming to enhance the overall well-being of the LGBTQIA+ community in Hyderabad. The camp offered dental and eye check-ups, comprehensive full-body examinations, HIV and STD/STI testing, diabetes screenings, and other medical services. - Proudly published the first-ever edition of Queernama - PFA magazine, Telangana's pioneering queer publication.
