K.V. Mahadevan, is a veteran music director, considered to be one of the greats of South Indian film music.

A contemporary of Mr. M.S. Viswanathan, KVM has scored music for over 600 films, spanning four decades, after starting his career in the late fifties with Avan Amaran. He is the first ever recipient of national award for best music for Kandan Karunai in 1967. He won it again in 1980 for Shankarabharanam.

Known for mythologicals such as Sampoorna Ramayanam and Thiruvilayadal, KVM is said to have been a path-breaker in blending classical music with film music and was a `guru' to many music directors. Fondly called as 'mama', his other hits include Sirivennela, Swathikiranam, Muthyala Muggu among others.
