Cheriyal paintings are a stylized form of Nakashi art, a vibrant and unique scroll painting tradition from Telangana, India. They are known for their storytelling through intricate, narrative scrolls, often depicting scenes from mythology, folklore, and local traditions. These paintings are not just art; they are a visual representation of the cultural and social fabric of Telangana, historically used by balladeers to narrate stories.

What you get to learn:

An introduction to 400-year-old Cheriyal art from the artisans of Cheriyal village. Guided session on creating traditional motifs and characters, followed by a hands-on instructions in sketching on traditional cheriyal canvas and natural colours.

What is included in your Cheriyal Art kit:

raditional cheriyal canvas prepared with khadi cotton cloth and a mixture of suddha matti (White Mud), rice starch, boiled tamarind seed paste and natural tree gum.

Thick Cheriyal painting brush.

Natural colours extracted from different elements such as stones and ash of an oil lamp and sea shells.
